How long will my film take to download?

Over an average UK broadband connection (about 2 Mbps):

  1. Large: 1 hour
  2. Medium: 40 minutes
  3. Small: 25 minutes

If you have a slower Internet connection than this, it will take longer.

If your download ‘stalls’, you may have to restart it by clicking the link again.

This download doesn’t work with my download manager

Download managers try to open lots of connections at once and stitch them all together later. This may use up all your download attempts in one go and may not work properly. We recommend that you disable any download managers that you are using BEFORE trying to download the movie.

Do I have to download this movie now, or can I come back later and download it then?

Your downloads will be available to you when you log in later, look for the ‘my downloads’ link immediately after logging in.

You can log in by clicking on the ‘My Account’ link in the top-right of your screen and then entering your username and password there. Don’t worry, there’s a ‘retrieve password’ function if you’ve forgotten it.

I have saved the file to my computer, but when I double-click it, I don’t see my film.

Apple Mac computers

You should normally have iTunes and QuickTime installed already.

The file should play when you double-click it.

If the file does not play, you may have a very old version of QuickTime installed. Update your version of QuickTime and iTunes by downloading and installing it from www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Note: only computers using running OS X are able to play this file. Macs running OS9 or earlier will not be able to play this file.

Windows computers

We recommend that you use either Apple QuickTime or Apple iTunes in order to be able to play the film.

You can download it free of charge from www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Then install it in the usual way – by double-clicking on the downloaded file and following the instructions.

Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may need to enter their machine password before the software is installed.

Once you have installed iTunes, the film should play just by double-clicking on the file.

If it doesn’t, click on the movie file with the right hand mouse button and hover over ‘Open With’ from the menu that appears.

A second sub-menu will appear, click on either ‘QuickTime player’ or ‘iTunes’ from this second menu with the left mouse button and the film should open.

If you are unable to install either QuickTime or iTunes on your computer, you may be able to play back this file with recent versions Windows Media Player or any video player software or device that supports H.264 playback.

I’ve clicked it a few times and now access to the download link seems to have vanished. What should I do?

Generally speaking, you have four chances to download the movie before your access is revoked. This is to stop people posting their details to a forum or distributing it to lots of people.

If you lose access and you haven’t been able to download your film, then email help@warpfilmstore.com, giving your order ID and as much detail as you can about what you did. If you get any error messages, please include those in your email.

Is this video copy-protected and can I burn it to a DVD or CD?

You can burn this movie to a CD or DVD for backup purposes. If you have suitable software, you can burn it to a DVD that will play back in a normal DVD player.

This video is not copy protected. We believe that copy protection systems punish our customers whilst doing nothing to prevent piracy.

Despite lacking copy protection, this video is covered by Copyright law and dishing out copies to friends and family is still piracy and still illegal.

Please don’t. As well as being against the law, dishing out free copies to your mates means we will have less money to make great cutting edge films in future. Warp Films isn’t some faceless global megacorp. It is a small, independent filmmaker that relies upon your support to keep going.

Can I transfer this film to my iPod, Creative Zen player, phone or other media player?

Yes, you can, but a tutorial on how to do this is beyond what we’re going to cover here. You’ll need to work that one out for yourself.

When I try to download the file, it opens a new page in my browser with a big blue Q and nothing else.

Your web browser is set up to try and open video files, rather than save them. Instructions are below on how to get your computer to save them to your hard disk.

Windows computers

Internet Explorer contextual menu

If you are using Internet Explorer (the blue e):

Click on the download link with the right-hand mouse button. A menu will appear like the one on the left.

Choose ‘Save Target As…’, then choose where to save it on your computer. Click OK and the film will be saved there.

Firefox Windows contextual menu

If you are using Firefox:

Click on the download link with the right-hand mouse button. A menu will appear like the one on the left.

Choose ‘Save Link As…’, then choose where to save it on your computer. Click OK and the film will be saved there.

Apple Mac computers

Safari contextual menu

If you are using Safari:

Hold down the [ctrl] key and click on the mouse button. You should see a menu appear like the one on the left.

Choose ‘Download Linked File’, then choose where to save it on your computer. Click OK and the film will be saved there.

Firefox Mac contextual menu

If you are using Firefox:

Hold down the [ctrl] key and click on the mouse button. You should see a menu appear like the one on the left.

Choose ‘Save Link As…’, then choose where to save it on your computer. Click OK and the film will be saved there.

When I try to download the file, it starts playing in my web browser almost immediately. What’s happening?

This is a slightly different version of the same problem listed above. Click on the back button and then follow the instructions given for ‘when I click on the download link, I only get a big blue Q’

You can watch the film in your web browser if you want to, but we do recommend downloading the film to your hard drive: otherwise you will only ever get four attempts at watching it!
